SDR
31 October 2009: The SDR stuff is fascinating me. My next project will certainly be deal with this ...

WAG40m
18 October 2009: WAG Contest on 17/18 October (see other blog entry).

WSPR
31 October 2009: I operated WSPR on 40m and 30m (with my 40m antenna) using the Softrock, RX320D or the TS690s. I find it sometimes unbelievable, how well my little antenna behaves.
15 October 2009: WSPR 40m portable operation (RX only) from Iffens in JO43dm
01 October 2009: WSPR is still doing strong on 40m. I let it run with 50mW today and I received a number of reports all over Europe !

Still running WSPR with my Softrock RXTX on 40m trying out different combiations. It is going strong and is a lot of fun. Using the Virtual Audio Cable I am able to run WSPR and simultanously receiving with WINRAD other stuff on 40m.

Winrad showing a SSB station on the WSPR frequency during the CQWW SSB contest on 25 October 2009.

At first I wanted to make a few contacts only, but I could find some time (about 3 hours) over the 24 hour period and made 217 QSOs in CW on 40m with 35 DXCC areas (Claimed 17890 points). Not bad for my small antenna. It was fun too. The log is submitted to the contest crew at DARC.

I spent a few day with friends at the North Sea coast living in an old farm house in JO43dm.

Portable setup in my friend's farmhouse. On the right you see the TenTec RX320D above the Yaesu FRT-7700 RX tuner.

Years ago I have put up a full size dipole inside that house right through the top of the roof about 14m above ground. The location is very "silent" radiowise. This time I took my RX320D receiver with me and ran it with WSPR on 30m first for a few hours on 11 October and then on 40m for the rest of the night. The power supply of my notebook is rather noisy; this reduces capabilities of that location. And too bad, that the activity has been so low. I could copy even the weaker stations I do not get here in my home QTH, but there were only few of them. So I stopped WSPR next day and preferred to play Irish tunes on my violin ...
